Morton Art Group

Consists of local "leisure painters" who meet on Thursday evenings during term time and paint together without tuition. Membership is restricted to 25 (currently full and a small waiting list). Guest artists come to demonstrate or run workshops on average twice a term, rest of the time there are suggested themes for the evening with members swapping ideas, techniques etc. Annual membership currently £40.00 (as at September 2009). We also try to hold two/three exhibitions each year at various local venues.

Saturday Painters

Meet usually on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month during term time from 10am to 3pm. Cost £5.00 per session (as at September 2009). No membership required - just come along and paint ! Again without tuition but help, discussion and suggestions from those present is actively encouraged. Please bring your own materials, lunch and enthusiasm. Tea and coffee is provided throughout the day.

The Hardy Plant Society is a national organisation for people who love gardens and gardening, and its particular interest is in hardy perennials, ornamental plants that can stay in the ground from year to year but may die down in the winter. We have a local group based here in Morton-on-Swale and there are about 40 members coming from a wide area.

Meetings are held at 7.30 p.m. on the 4th Friday of each month from January to June and September to November, with illustrated talks on a variety of garden-related topics. Sometimes speakers bring plants for sale and there is nearly always a table of plants brought by members and offered for sale at very reasonable prices. In the summer there are visits to gardens all over North Yorkshire. There are plant sales and a regular Newsletter.

The group is very friendly and delighted to welcome new members. Our gardens and gardening experience vary greatly, and hearing about each other’s gardens, ideas, problems and experiences helps to make every meeting interesting and enjoyable.

Subscriptions are £8 single or £12 for two at the same address; and subscriptions to the national society are in addition £17 single or £19 double.

The Morton Lunch Club

This group meets in the Village Hall, Morton on Swale, on the first Monday of the month at 12 noon. We meet to share good food and good company and there is a very warm welcome to everyone who would like to join us.

We start with a welcoming drink then we have a choice of two homemade soups with a roll. This is followed by a pudding, also homemade, then biscuits with a selection of cheeses and coffee or tea. This is cooked by a group of ladies who also enjoy the food and company.

The cost is £2.50.

Our aim is to enjoy a good meal in a friendly atmosphere and to foster a community spirit. So do join us.

Morton Quilters and Plain Navy Workshops

Workshops in Patchwork and Quilting are held regularly in Morton on Swale Village Hall.
A friendly, welcoming atmosphere and homemade refreshments make these sessions an enjoyable place to learn this craft.

The next set of workshops are starting on Wednesday 23rd February.

Morton Quilters meet in Morton Village Hall, usually on the 3rd Friday of the month. We welcome all
abilities to come and join our relaxed, friendly and informal group.

Join us with your own project to sit and sew with fellow fabricaholics, from 7pm ~ 9pm.
Our next meeting is on February 18th.

Ainderby Steeple WI - Jam and Jerusalem – No, Fun and Friendship – Yes

Ainderby Steeple WI meet every second Tuesday of the month at 7.15 p.m in the Village Hall Morton on Swale.

We have a program of speakers and demonstrations covering a wide range of subjects and interest.

The annual subscription is £29.50 and new members are always made welcome.
